Accepting an invitation

When someone invites you to their business in Sliptree, you'll receive an email titled Invitation to join [Business name] on Sliptree. This article walks through what happens next.

What the invitation email looks like

The email is sent from the person who invited you. It contains:

  • A short message explaining that they've invited you to join their business.
  • An Accept Invitation button — this is a signed link tied specifically to your email address.

Click Accept Invitation to start the acceptance flow.

If you don't have a Sliptree account yet

If you've never used Sliptree before, the link takes you to the sign-up page. Create an account using the same email address the invitation was sent to — the matching email is what links your new account to the invitation.

See How do I sign up? for the sign-up basics. Once your account is created and your email is verified, click the Accept Invitation button again from the invitation email to land directly in the business.

If you already have a Sliptree account

If you're already signed in, the link drops you straight into the invited business with the role the inviter chose for you. You can then switch between this business and any others you're part of from the business switcher in the top navigation.

If you're signed out, you'll be asked to log in first — again, using the same email address the invitation was sent to.

When the email doesn't match

The invitation is bound to a specific email address. If you're signed in with a different email — for example, a personal account when the invitation went to your work address — Sliptree shows the message "Sorry, this invitation is for someone else." and returns you to the business selector.

Two ways to fix this:

  • Sign in with the matching email: log out, sign back in with the address the invitation was sent to, and click the invitation link again.
  • Have the inviter re-send to the right address: ask the person who invited you to cancel the invitation and re-send it to your preferred email. See Cancelling or resending an invitation for the steps they should follow.

Expired or invalid links

Each invitation link is digitally signed. If the link has been tampered with, or if the invitation has already been used or cancelled, you'll see "Sorry, this invitation is either expired or invalid."

In that case, ask the person who invited you to re-send the invitation from their Business settings → Members page. The re-send generates a fresh, valid link.

After accepting

You're now a member of the business with the role the inviter assigned. For an overview of what each role can do, see Member roles and permissions.
