Switching between businesses
One Sliptree user account can be connected to as many businesses as you like. Accountants who handle several clients, freelancers who run more than one brand, and business owners with multiple legal entities all use the same account to keep everything in one place.
The business switcher
Your current business is shown at the top of the left-hand navigation, just under your name. Click it to open the menu, then click Switch or create business to see every business connected to your account.
The business you're currently working in is marked with a checkmark. Click any other business in the list to switch — Sliptree takes you straight to that business's dashboard and every page you visit from then on (invoices, customers, settings) is scoped to it.
There's nothing to "save" or "exit" when you switch. Your work in the other business is already there and untouched.
Which business is selected when you sign in?
If your user account is connected to more than one business, Sliptree shows a Select company page right after sign-in and asks you to pick which one to open. You can switch later at any time with the business switcher. If you only have one business, Sliptree opens it straight away.
Adding another business
From the switcher menu, click Add another business at the bottom. You'll be taken through a short setup to enter the new business's name and basic details. The new business is created under your user account and you'll be the owner.
Adding a business doesn't affect any other business you're already part of — each has its own invoices, customers, settings, members and subscription.
Being added to someone else's business
You don't have to own a business to access it. If a colleague invites you as a member, the business appears in your switcher as soon as you accept the invitation. The level of access you have depends on the role assigned to you — see Member roles and permissions.
This is the standard pattern for accountants: the client owns the business, invites the accountant as a member with the appropriate role, and the accountant sees that business listed in the switcher alongside their own.
Tips
- The switcher only shows businesses you're an active member of. If a business is missing, check that the invitation was accepted or ask the owner to re-invite you.
- Most URLs in Sliptree include the current business's slug, so bookmarks stay scoped to the right business even after switching.
- You can have separate browser tabs open in different businesses at the same time, which is handy when comparing data side-by-side.
