Setting up e-invoicing
Sliptree can send e-invoices through the Estonian operator network (to Estonian recipients) and internationally through Peppol (to Peppol-enabled recipients in Europe and beyond). E-invoicing is available for businesses based in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, and only Owners and Admins can run the setup.
Run the setup
- Click the business name in the top right and choose Business settings.
- Open the E-invoicing section.
- Work through the guided stepper. Each step explains what is needed and what to click next.
Sliptree only shows the steps that apply to the business's country. A typical flow is identity verification → representation rights check → country prerequisites → activation.
Identity verification
Click Verify identity to be redirected to the e-ID provider, authenticate with Smart-ID, Mobile-ID, or an ID card, and return to the setup page. The verified name and personal identification code appear on the step with the verification date. Identity verification is done once per user and applies to every business that user belongs to.
Representation rights check
Sliptree confirms that the verified person has the legal right to represent the business. For Estonian companies the check runs through RIA (the Estonian Information System Authority); for Latvian companies through the VISS registry. The check runs automatically; Retry check and Verify identity again are available if it fails (commonly because the registry is temporarily unreachable, or the authenticated person is not a registered representative).
Where no automatic check is available, the step offers self-attestation: tick the checkbox and click Confirm and continue to confirm representation rights manually.
Country prerequisites
Latvian companies need a VAT number on file. Estonian companies have no extra prerequisites beyond the registration number. When a prerequisite is missing, the relevant step shows an inline form for the missing field.
IBAN bank account
A SEPA bank account with a valid IBAN under Banking is required for the Estonian e-invoice format, which embeds the payment account in the XML. For Peppol BIS the payment account is technically optional, but most receiving systems use it to reconcile the invoice with the incoming bank transfer. See Working with financial accounts.
Activation
The final step, Enable e-invoicing, registers the business with the e-invoicing operator and turns sending on.
Disabling e-invoicing
Once enabled, the E-invoicing section shows a summary and a Disable e-invoices button. Disabling unregisters the business from the operator. E-invoicing can be re-enabled later by running the setup again.
Next: sending e-invoices
Once setup is complete, sending an e-invoice is the same flow as sending by email — just a different tab in the send panel. See Sending e-invoices to customers.
